# Medals

## What are Medals?

Medals are your ranking points that determine your competitive standing and the quality of rewards you receive. Unlike [Coins](/prlw/game-information/power-coins.md) or [Crystals](/prlw/game-information/power-crystals.md), Medals are not a currency you "spend." Instead, they are a score that fluctuates based on your performance in Player-vs-Player (PvP) matches.

### 1. How Medals Work

* **Winning:** When you win a PvP battle, you gain Medals. The amount depends on the difference between your medal count and your opponent's. Beating a higher-ranked player awards more medals.
* **Losing:** When you lose a PvP battle, you lose Medals.
* **Training:** You do not gain or lose Medals in Training matches or Friendly matches (Alliance battles).

### 2. Medals & Leagues

Your total Medal count determines which League (Arena) you fight in. This is the most critical function of Medals because:

* **Unlocks Characters:** New characters are only unlocked when you reach specific Leagues. For example, you cannot find "League X" warrior shards in boxes until your Medal count is high enough to enter League X.
* **Better Loot:** A Morph Box earned in a higher League contains significantly more rewards (more coins, more shards) than the same box earned in a lower League.

### 3. Season Resets

For players in the highest competitive tiers (usually the "Elite" leagues and above), there is a Season Reset every month.

* At the end of a season, players with very high Medal counts are reset to a specific baseline.
* This prevents medal counts from inflating infinitely and keeps the leaderboard competitive.
* Players are awarded special "Season Rewards" based on the highest Medal count they achieved during that month.

### 4. Matchmaking

The game uses your Medal count to find opponents. You are generally matched with players who have a similar number of Medals to ensure fair fights, though this can vary if the player pool is small at that specific moment.

### 5. Where can I find my medals?

The icon for Medals is a Golden Shield featuring the iconic Power Rangers Lightning Bolt in the center.

It is distinct from the round "Power Coins" and looks more like a badge or military crest. You will primarily see this icon in three places:

* **Top Left of the Home Screen:** Next to your current League progress bar.
* **Post-Match Screen:** Displayed with a `+` or `-` to show how many rank points you gained or lost.
* **Leaderboards:** Next to player names to show their total rank score.
